The Incursion is the term used among Shadowhunters to refer to the ongoing demon invasion of the world.
History[]
After what seemed like thousands of years of dormancy, shortly after 1000 AD, Lilith and Sammael performed a powerful demonic ritual that strengthened the demons of Pandemonium, weakening the wards between the human world and the Void, allowing them to enter the world. The massive influx of demons and their continued presence in the human world prompted the creation of the Nephilim. Although wards still stand to protect the world from a complete invasion, a steady stream of demonkind still gain access to the world through rips in the wards. With no sign of slowing, the Nephilim have tried for years to find a solution to end this, but while there is still none, they continue to hunt down the creatures.[1]
