    • So I went to watch City Of Bones today.. Loved it (even though it was narrowed down and things were missed out) I still loved it and can't wait for the next one!! Definitly something to see!!!!!

    • Bit squashed together and less dialogue in between but that was to keep to the storyline and it was still awesome. The song incorporations were so sweet and I guess the including of things that happen later on are just to explain a bit to non-book readers. It was still so cool, the demons..... woah! All the characters were awesome!

    • i havent read the first book but im planning on doing so due to people saying that in the movie they missed a lot of important things out, and im also planning on reading the whole series as they look very interesting and i was already attached to the film.. and i went to see the film and i thought it was absolutly amazing, and i understand some bits were missed out to keep it into the time of 2 hours.. but i am looking forward to reading the rest of the books and the films!!

    • I absolutely LOVED, LOVED, LOOOVVVEEEDDDD this movie!!! I cant even say all that I loved about this movie!! I really love how they didnt change too much from the book. They even took some lines of dialogue RIGHT out of the book! For example- Jace: In the future Clarissa, it might be wise to mention that you already have a man in your bed to avoid such tedious situations. Simon: You invited him into bed?! Jace: Ridiculous isnt it? We would never have all fit. Clary: I didnt invite him into bed. We were just kissing. - That was in the movie! And I really think that they could have made it just a little longer than 2 hours. The Mortal Instruments is going to end up being like Harry Potter. Everyone is going to love it and it will be very popular. Almost all of the Harry Potter movies were longer than 2 hours because the details in the book were just too important to leave out. Dont make a big book into a movie if your just going to change everything. I'm not saying they did though. The writers and the actors did an amazing job with this movie. LOVED IT!! <3

    • I loved the movie so much. Even though the movie was completely different from the book. I'd definitely recommend it. The only thing that bugged me (Something I didnt think about until after I'd seen it for a second time and had reread the first three books) Was Valentine (Beside being totally gorgeous) his 'thing', if youd like, is that he loves his kids. He continually says that he won't harm Clary or Jace. But then in the movie he fights, and nearly kills, Jace and smashes Clary's head into a table. That is NOT the Valentine from the books. All the other differences I can live with (Even if Valentine ever really got his hands on the Mortal Cup and Hodge never ran away). Overall i really loved the movie. The characterisation could have been improved though. Jace hardly ever smiled and was a bit darker than he was in the book. in the movie we see pretty much one scene of Isabelle being as kick-ass as she is in the book (the Dumort scene). The only character that I thought was done brilliantly and all but exact as the book was Alec. I loved his character right from the start of the book and movie. I am welcome to opposition and whatnot but Alec was the only character from the movie that i thought was just like the book. He was completely hot too! Dont get me wrong, I loved the characters but they werent the same as the characters in the book.

I actually really really loved the movie and im a little upset that i read somewhere that they were only planning to do the first three books as movies (even though the CoFA and CoBG weren't my favourite)

      But yeah, loving the discussions.

      xoxo

    • LOVED THE MOVIE.

They overdid it with the changes though. There was a line and they crossed it when they put Valentine say that Jace had something blocking his memory. I was like WHAT'S THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN? WTF?  I was perfectly happy with everything they did and all the other changes but this one REALLY bugged me. Magnus.. that was my second problem. Terrible acting. It was like he wore strange make up and strange clothes and threw up lines because he knew he had to. Everything else was amazing and stunning. The demons were scary. I was like o.O  SO MANY LINES KEPT FROM THE BOOK GEEZ MAN! I didn't excpect SO many lines to be kept from the book. It was always a surprise when I heard lines from the book. :D I just didn't want to leave when the movie finished.. I almost cried at the ending aww ... When the movie finished I said I WANT CITY OF ASHES 0.0 I think I got stares. Just guys can you stand another year of waiting for the sequel? I can't .. but I have to :(

Seeing it again on Monday with my friends ^^ I'm excited again because it will be weird. I have never seen a movie in a theatre twice or three times. And every time was without my friends.

It was just perfect. <3 <3 Greenhouse scene <3 <3 We were clapping in the theatre when they kissed. <3 <3 BEST KISS OF THE YEAR AWARD <3 applause.

      <3

    • Even though they missed out some parts from the book, it was still a great movie!! What I liked most is that they didn't change too much unlike other movies that comes from a book. To be honest, I think the cast fit the characters very well (especially Simon!!!!). Not perfect but not to the point where I was very angry. Don't listen to the critics they never have something good to say especially on Rotten Tomatoes. This movie is one to watch. It is filled with an equal amount of Action, Drama, Romance, and Humor. I can't wait for City of Ashes to come out!!!

    • To be directly, I didn't like it. I didn't like it at all. The only ONE character that was exactly I was expecting is Magnus but I would add pants to Godfrey.

It has SPOILERS from the plot of the second and third book which arruins everything for the new readers. There was the scene where they fight with vampires, its the most annoying to hear ZEDD so loud like it was a party instaed of a war.

I wouldn't recommend it if you a) you love the book and the TMI b) you didn't read any of the books c) you have a good taste.

I love TMI. I've never been so obssed with anything in my life and I loved the movie as you see in my comment above. Sure, there where serious changes in some parts but overall the movie was stunning in my opinion.

    • I loved the movie! It was awesome. The critics don't know what they were saying when they gave it a negative review. It had a lot of action, it had good battle sequences and a great story line.

My only critcism is the script. There are a lot of unanswered questions and missing dialogue in the movie. Also you'd think she'd ask a few questions at jace for how a dog could morph into a sadistic creature.

    • I absolutely loved the movie, I have read all the books and am waiting for the last one to come out. Anyway back to the movie it was the best. I was soooo excited before watching it I was shaking. I reckon they picked all the characters perfectly and the actors did a great job. I can't wait for the second movie (The City of Ashes) to come out, I really want to be see who they picked to play Jonathan/Sebastian. My favourite character would have to be Jace. They got him perfect. LOVED THE MOVIE. :) Can't wait for the second movie.

    • I loved the movie, though it has a lot of mistakes that contradicts the original novels, not only due to the characters' physhical descriptions but also the outcomes. Lilly Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower and Johnathan Rhyn-Meyers were great actors, but have nothing to do with their respective characters according to the novels' description. Besides Jamie is way older than 18 and not so attractive and muscular for playing Jace.

In terms of the novel's storyline: Jace was rased by Valentine and saw him as his real father; the rendez-vous between Clary, Jace and Valentine happened in Renwick's Hospital; the fight between Luke and Valentine; Valentine always managed to get his hands on the cup.

    • Despite all the criticism Jamie Campbell Bower is getting as getting cast as the role of Jace I personally thought he was absolutely brilliant. Sure yea I love Alex Pettyfer but I don't think he could pull off the sarcastic and dark side of Jace the way Jamie did. I also think that Pettyfer might have also been a tad too pretty for the role.

    • i loved the movie! it was amazing. the dialogue, acting and outfits were perfect. the action and romance were perfectly well packed. this movie is seriously worth every dime. i love this movie. if you havent seen it then i suggest running to the closest theater and buying a ticket. it has a great story line thanks to the Cassandra Clare and the screen writer, not to mention the actors were really cute. i loved this movie. go and watch it and i guarantee you'll love it too.

    • as TMI fan i loved the movie my only suggestion goes to ja c.bower hes perfect acting for the role but you need to get in shape man more muscular alec was more muscular then him and its supposed tobe the other way around

    • Just to clear things up: "Just because you love the books doesn't mean you have to love the movie, that doesn't make you more or less fan of the saga".

But i have to be honest, I'm surprise so many of us loved the movie. With my friends, we saw it only one time and we disliked it so much that it made us a little furious. Everyone has its own opinion which is great and it's nice to see we don't have a fanwar just because some of us loved the movie or some of us dislike it completely.

    • One of the best movies ever. I went to see it with my friend who has friend who hasn't read the book and his brother who has read it. Both of them loved it. Although it was quite different from the book it was still absolutely brilliant.

    • Ngl I wasn't much of a fan (especially of whatever they did to Godfrey's voice; it was dubbed in some way or another, whether it be his own voice or someone else's, and man did that dubbing sound emotionless and dull). I'm seeing it with some friends a second time this weekend though, so I'll be able to better judge if it was just because I was holding it up to the book too much or if those are my actual feelings.

It definitely seemed like something only fans of the book would be able to walk out understanding, though. A lot of worldbuilding was left pretty unexplained or absent, and my sister (who doesn't read the novels) came out confused and thinking it was terrible.

    • I found it very disappointing. They got the overall plot of the book, but in trying to fit it into the time limit, they shaved off key concepts. Like they explained nothing about the Silent Brothers, only gave a brief explanation of the runes, and pretty much left out everything about the Shadowhunter culture. There was nothing about the definition of Downworlders, or the fact that demons are from hell dimensions, and they seriously skipped over a lot about the Shadow World in general. If I hadn't read the books, I would've been hopelessly lost. Plus, they mentioned pretty much nothing about Luke's history with Valentine or that he used to be a Shadowhunter, how he came to be a werewolf, or his history with Jocelyn. Important, people! Plus, they really played down Jace's shock at finding out Clary was his sister, and his reluctance to believe that Valentine was a villain. Plus I hated the Isabelle they chose! She was nowhere even in the universe of how Isabelle is supposed to be. Isabelle is bubbly, and vibrant, and wild, and badass! The Isabelle in the movie was way too serious, plus she looked like she was in her late twenties, instead of sixteen. And when Clary asked Isabelle about Alec's sexuality, it was like they were afraid of using the word, 'gay'. And Jamie Campbell Bower was just an awful Jace. I think I saw him smile once in the entire movie. And I hated how they made it look like Hodge's curse was all in his head. It was a real curse, not some agoraphobic thing! And Valentine was much too angry. He tried using force almost right away, whereas the book Valentine is more charming and cunning than that. And Magnus was entirely wrong. At first, I thought he looked wrong, then I went back in the books and read that he was, in fact, Asian. But in the movie, he was nowhere near as flamboyant as he was in the books. He was entirely too serious and much kinder than Magnus was in the book. And they made it look like Madame Dorothea was a genuine witch, which we know to be not true! And though it wasn't that important, I hated that they didn't make Simon a rat! I loved that part in the book. After I saw the movie, I felt the urge to read the books again, so I could relive how it was supposed to be. All-in-all, though all of the overall plot points were correct, they just left out so many crucial or key concepts. Most of my problems aren't really with what they did get wrong, its just what they left out that bothers me. Sure, a lot of the characters were wrong, but with the way they just glossed over so many things, they just didn't make this movie as good as it could've been. To sum it up, I'm not ashamed to admit to throwing popcorn at the screen when I saw this movie.

    • I gotta say, I only started getting into The Mortal Instruments because the movie came out on my birthday and wow! It was one heck of a birthday gift! I absolutely loved it! And the casing was amazing! To be honest, I though Simon was way more better looking than I imagined him to be, but Robert Sheehan did the role justice!

Just adding - Jamie/Jace's stunts and everything - I practically just DIED watching him be so awesome on screen. And envying him too, 'cause I am THE least flexible person alive.

One really annoying thing though: City of Ashes has been DELAYED! NOOOOOOOOO :(

    • I am truly dissapointed in that movie. They made it seem like just an ordinary teenagemovie like twilight, with werevolves and vampires and stuff. They just didn't mentioned anything about the background and how everything in the book is connected and so well planned, what is for me the most important thing of all. but I expected that, the books are just always better then the movies

    • I thought that since it was an adaption, it was a very good one!

The actors and actresses were well cast and they definitely lived up to my expectations! I loved them all! Especially Jocelyn, her epic scene in the beginning when she takes on Pangborn and Blackwell made me laugh because she is soo bad-ass!! :D The only disappointment was Magnus - I didn't like his voice, it felt as if it had been dubbed over and didn't have Godfrey Gao's original accent (as seen in interviews) which I thought really made him Magnus! And I'm also sad that Alec and Luke didn't get more screen time.

The screenplay was the biggest let down, in my honest opinion. And the end was such a big ANTI-CLIMAX. I was expecting the epic fight between Luke and Valentine and the confrontation between Jace and Clary. I liked that Isabelle and Alec got to help out but the fact that the Institute became Renwick's was totally flawed. And it gave you the anti-climatic feeling of how did you not notice the unconcious woman floating in the basement, isn't it a bit obvious - especially with the door OPEN?!

I also wanted to puke when Jace said 'You know that I said I'd never seen an angel? Well I have now.' WHAT WHAT?! Who is this weird Jace who spouts romantic rubbish to Clary? I'm pretty sure that supposed to be Will Herondale.

The set and effects were really good and didn't look too unrealistic and cheap. I liked the Institute set and the Fray appartment. Although the demons were a bit weird..

Anyway, overall, a good adaption and a good film which stayed true to the book in the important place - like the themes, complexity of relationships and love, and the key message that if you find yourself descended from mysterious kick ass fighters, kick butt! ;)

      Totally..

    • Take some of the wierrd CGI from the demons..... and use it to make Magnus and Jace's eye colours consistent, for F%^'s sake! Or maybe for muting the footsteps of the Silent brothers! OMG! It's little things like that that I think just irritate the fans, that are so easy to fix! I think the cutting together was not great, not enough of characters talking and getting to know each other and too much random portal exploding stuff! I sometimes felt like details of the world were left out, for example, Jace saying the demon is dead, and Jace not correcting Clary in the silent city when she says she can't believe this place is just outside the city! Also the "I kissed you?!" and then Jace's "wasn't that memorable for me either" line from in the book is a joke, as in Clary couldn't remember, but then in the movie he says special or something instead of memorable and then it's just wierd. They really needed to mention Idris, Parabatai, and that demons do not all posess living things!? I think they made an amazing movie, then it was badly edited, including the score. When I think of any flaw of the movie, if it had just stuck to the book, the flaw would not have existed. Yet, as I watch it, of course the feels overide the annoyance. I just really wish for an extended or revised editing version on DVD!!

    • I don't mind if CoA takes a little longer if that means the editing will be better, and the script, and everything closer to the book and in depth.

    • And I'm not sure how they are going to fix the entire fearless rune issue, because although they didn't mention it in the movie, it was used a LOT.

    • I cant't believe people liked the movie, i mean it was so un accurate to the actual story line. For example in the book the fight to get back clarfy's mom and jace is at the Renwicks asylum not the conclave institute, Valentine doesn't use some sort of demon summoning beam but instead he had forsaken warriors. This list coud go on and on but it would be to much to write. The only thing i like was that it gave you the authers perspective on how things look e.g the seraph baldes and the steles

    • I liked the movie. I mean, yeah sure, I wish they had gotten some of those details correct but I still liked it. I think they should have done a better job for non-readers. A lot of them couldnt really understand a lot of what was happening.

    • I didn't really enjoy it 'cause it cut out some important stuff and added in way to much. Like at the end CLARY HAS THE CUP!!! What the hell? That ruins the entire plot of the next movie where Valentine goes in search of the sword because he has the cup! God!

    • Oh wow I completely forgot about that. :O Shows how long its been since I read the first book....

    • I thought it was okay. It was what I was expecting it to be. I hated the way they cut out a lot of the character dialouge though. It made everything seemed rushed, and the characters didn't really seem to get to know each other. I mean, Clary knew Alec was gay before she knew his name, after he spoke once. And it kind of seemed like Jace wasn't all that close with Isabelle and Alec. I know that it was mostly about Clary/Jace, but the rest of them are important and become more so as the books go on. Anyways, it was entertaining at least, even with that weird portal fight thing. I would have liked more Alec though. I took a firend who had never read the books to see the movie and before it I was telling her how great he was, and then he didn't do much.

    • Having read the books multiple times, we the actual shadowhunters felt personally insulted by the movie. It was inaccurate to the book, and let's just take a moment to note "Valentine's" BLACK HAIR and DREADLOCKS. Also, why NO SHIRT!? The demons were inaccurate to the books, as well as the fact that Simon was not even turned into a rat in the movie! Where did Renwick's go, may we ask? THE ENTIRE PANDEMONIUM SCENE WAS INCORRECT! Alec and Isabelle were so underdeveloped that it is a crime. The dialogue was almost skipped, and what happened with the portal? SINCE WHEN CAN YOU THROW A PORTAL AND THEN JUST SEND YOUR ARM THROUGH IT?!!! Finally, the people from Idris ARE NOT BRITISH! Idris is between Germany and France. They would not in any way have British accents, and even if they did, it would have been mentioned IN THE ACTUAL BOOKS. And this concludes this scathing review. ---Shadowhunters
