The Wicked Powers is a planned trilogy written by Cassandra Clare. The fifth in the series chronologically, it is so far set to be the last and concluding series of The Shadowhunter Chronicles.[1][2][3][4][5] The title is derived from a Shadowhunter children's rhyme: "And bronze to summon wicked powers."

Known information

  • It is expected to take place either three to four years after The Dark Artifices,[6][7][8][9][10] or in 2015.[11]
  • The series is currently set to be about two of the younger Blackthorns,[8][12][13] or at least two of the characters from The Dark Artifices.[14][15] It is also set to feature a Herondale aside from Jace,[16] possibly Kit Rook.[17] The protagonists will be announced after the release of Lord of Shadows.[18]
  • Being the final series installment, Cassie has plans for all the characters who are still around to face the greatest threat they've ever faced, and the characters from different generations of the Shadowhunter Chronicles will have to unite and join forces in the biggest battle they'll ever have to take it down,[19] and that something will happen that will change the nature of Shadowhunters and what they mean.[20] She has also stated that "It will bring the Shadowhunter Chronicles to an end. The Shadowhunter world will change forever."[21][22]
  • Cassie once talked about writing a story after The Dark Artifices with gay protagonists (specifically two guys), and they may be featured in this series, though this could also be about The Last Hours.[23][24]
  • The Dark Artifices will lead into this series. TDA is (as of 2016) expected to end in a place with unresolved issues, specifically about the government (The Clave), which will be one of the main plots of The Wicked Powers, and where "things are not great for a bunch of people, and that's gonna be hard and sad" but are also set to be resolved in TWP.[15]
  • Before or during this series, we are set to hear from Marisol Garza and Bat Velasquez.

  • The Wicked Powers will feature a plot inspired by and very loosely based on Arthurian legend, following the "parallels" tradition of other series.[25]
