Teddy was the son of Sophie Collins' former employer.
History
Sophie Collins was a parlour maid who was hired for her beautiful looks. However, this had a serious disadvantage: the employer's son took a liking to her. He would catch her in dark corners and press her up against the wall, hands creeping under her bodice, murmuring in her ear that she had better be friendlier to him if she knew what was good for her.
As she repeatedly refused him, Teddy eventually slashed her face with a knife, permanently scarring her face, saying that if he couldn't have her, then no one could. Sophie went to her mistress to complain but her son told his mother that Sophie had tried to seduce him and merely defended himself. Sophie was then fired and thrown onto the street.
