Matt Daddario was born in New York to Richard and Christina Daddario, both of whom were lawyers. He grew up in New York City, where he attended The Collegiate School before studying business at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. He graduated in 2010, after which he began studying acting and started auditioning.
Matt has Italian, Irish, English, Czech, and Hungarian ancestry. He is the middle child, with a younger sister, Catharine, and an older sister, Alexandra Daddario, the latter of whom is also an actress.
After appearing in national TV spots for Amazon Kindle and Burger King, he booked his first major role playing Aaron in Breathe In.
Matt's next big role came in the form of Delivery Man, where he played one of the many children of the main character David Wozniak, played by Vince Vaughn, and When the Game Stands Tall. He was also cast as Gabriel in the film adaptation of Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List, and as an as of yet unknown character in the 2015 remake of Cabin Fever.
When the first casting calls were made for the ABC Family series Shadowhunters in early 2015, Matt was among those who auditioned for the part of Jace Wayland. When Cassandra Clare watched the audition video, she tagged it "Would be perfect Alec" for the producers. Eventually, Dominic Sherwood was cast as Jace, and Matthew went to audition as Alec in Los Angeles. On May 8, 2015, it was announced that Matt and Isaiah landed the roles of Alec Lightwood and Luke Garroway, respectively.
