Derek is a vampire and member of the New York vampire clan.
History[]
Derek was carelessly drinking blood from a mundane girl with Lily and two more vampires in 1953 when they were seen by the warlock Magnus Bane and the young vampire Raphael Santiago. This infuriated Raphael, who went on to lecture them about the wrongness of their nonchalance. While all of them tried to speak up and defend their actions at one point, Raphael continued and eventually almost all of them were moved, surprising even Lily, who pointed out that Derek was capable of ripping people's heads off to drink blood from the stem. After Raphael's speech, Magnus offered them scotch, which Derek and the others accepted before Magnus left with Raphael.[1]
